1872 Bus Update

On the subject of the exciting announcement from Glasgow Warriors regarding the new sponsorship with Caledonia Best and the free bus to the 1872 Cup match in Edinburgh on the 29th December, The XVIth Warrior will no longer be running a bus to Edinburgh at this time.

We have however worked with Glasgow Warriors to ensure that all those who have already booked a place on our bus will be guaranteed a place on the free bus run by the new sponsors and you will also be given a full refund.

If the demand for spaces on the supporters' bus looks to be higher than the spaces available then we will aim to put on an additional service, although this will have a fee of £10.

Full details here:

http://www.glasgowwarriors.org/

We look forward to seeing you all at the game!

Glasgow Warriors v Leinster

Tough game to swallow; we made some considerable mistakes and it's telling when your full back & left wing spend the game trying to stay warm. We asked a lot of our EDP players and they did give their all.

We recorded the pre game talk from Gus MacDonald & John Welsh and the post game analysis from Shade Munro.

Glasgow Warriors v Newport Gwent Dragons match preview

Glasgow Warriors approach this game off the back of a very good run in the PRO12 having won their last five fixtures, although narrow losses in the European tournament have put a slight halt on their momentum.
The Dragons face this game hoping to bounce back after a heavy home defeat to table toppers Ulster. With only losing one player to international duty, the Dragons should have the continuity and depth in their squad to really challenge the Warriors.
Glasgow have lost numerous players to international call ups and injury which has left them very light in their backline, yet young Canadian star Taylor Paris will look to shine in his first appearance for his side.
Their pack meanwhile, despite being depleted, is still a very tough unit and with the effective Chris Fusaro in their backrow they will be looking to dominate the breakdown.
The forwards have been the Dragons’ Achilles heel this season and even against a weakened Glasgow pack, they will be up against it, particularly their front row.
The Dragons will need Robling and Evans to really step up and help secure them the ball at the breakdown, as the service scrum half Johnny Evans can provide to his backline is sublime and with danger runners in Dan Evans, Prydie and Chavhanga to bring into the game, if they get enough ball, they can pose dangerous out wide that Glasgow could struggle to contend with.
The visitors will have to target the breakdown and the inexperienced Glasgow half backs if they are to have a chance of disrupting the Warriors’ Pro12 form. Glasgow will need to keep the ball secure with their hardier forwards and punish the Dragons up front.
If the Warriors are able to get a larger share of possession, they should, especially with a solid centre partnership, have enough in their side to power to a win. The Dragons however have the men to cause the home side problems; it’s just whether or not their forwards can secure them enough clean possession to do so.

The XVIth Warrior pub quiz!

Thanks everyone who came along to the pub quiz! It was a fantastic atmosphere and though we thought we would have 6 players coming along, it seems that the Glasgow Warriors love a good quiz night as we ended up with no less than 9 players:

Ed Kalman (GW)
Right back L-R: Graeme Morrison (GW), Gus Macdonald (GW), Rory Lamont (GW)

The Cup A Soups (pictured here with The XVIth Warrior Chairman Mary Williams) came in top and won the voucher for a meal at Waxy's Glasgow,

who kitted out the area fantastically, and as per usual served up some tasty nibbles to keep us going during the TWELVE ROUNDS!! Big thanks to the guys for sticking with it even though they did have to be up early for training for the game against Dragons on Friday.

Waxy's decked out The Guinness bar and made us feel right at home...a spooky cobweb filled home but a home none the less! The Halloween decorations were up but so were the Glasgow Warriors flags, and we were happy to share. Great touch guys!

A total of £103 pounds was raised and £20 will be donated to the Poppy appeal, the rest will go towards maintaining The XVIth Warrior.

Here are a few shots of the evening, sorry they are a bit shaky but it was pretty packed in there with 10 teams competing!

Songs for Scotstoun

It has to be said Scotstoun has been very quite of late! Some of the supporters have suggested and written a couple of songs and chants, so let's remember why Sean Lineen stated that we were the loudest in the Rabo and get our voices behind the boys!
If you think you can do better then have a go: record it, post it and let's all learn it!

Chants
Hoggy, Hoggy, Hoggy
Oi Oi Oi
Hoggy
Oi
Hoggy
Oi!

Oooooooooooofa!

Let's Go Glasgow, Let's Go (clap,clap)
Let's Go Glasgow, Let's Go (clap,clap)

Wonderful Warriors - Clan McGregor

If it was’nae for the Warriors where would you be,
You’d be on the couch, drinking a cup of tea,
You’d be on the X-box or watching TV,
If it was’nae for the wonderful Warriors.

Warriors are Wonderful, Warriors are great,
With Clyde as the mascot you’ve always got a mate,
We’re all going to Scotstoun, we can’nae be late,
To cheer on the Glasgow Warriors

We Love You Glasgow - Fiona Burns

We Love You Glasgow, and if it’s quite alright,
We need you Glasgow to score some tries tonight,
We love you Glasgow trust in me when I say,

We Love You Glasgow, and if it’s quite alright,
We need you Glasgow to win this game tonight,
So play on Glasgow, play on play on Glasgow

Oh Canada - Suggested by Craig Chalmers

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
